Gold rates in Pakistan are primarily driven by the international spot price of gold, quoted in US Dollars per troy ounce, and the prevailing USD/PKR exchange rate. Local Sarafa associations — including the All Pakistan Sarafa Jewellers Association — convert this international benchmark into Pakistani Rupees and publish reference rates for 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K gold each trading day, typically per tola (11.6638 grams) and per gram.
Because gold is traded globally around the clock, Pakistan's local rates can be revised multiple times during the day as the spot price or exchange rate shifts. Jewellers across Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and other cities generally reference these association rates, then add their own making charges, taxes and margins — which is why the price you pay at a shop may differ slightly from the headline "gold rate".

Local rates generally follow international bullion (spot) prices converted into PKR using the prevailing US Dollar exchange rate, then adjusted by Sarafa associations for the local market, including the All Pakistan Sarafa Jewellers Association benchmark commonly referenced in Karachi.
24K gold is about 99.9% pure, 22K is roughly 91.67% pure, 21K is about 87.5% pure, and 18K is about 75% pure. Lower-karat gold contains more alloyed metals, so it typically costs less per gram than higher-karat gold.
One tola equals approximately 11.6638 grams. This traditional South Asian unit remains the standard measure used by jewellers and Sarafa markets across Pakistan.
Gold is priced internationally in US Dollars per troy ounce. As the global spot price or the USD/PKR exchange rate shifts, local Sarafa associations revise PKR rates — sometimes more than once a day.
The underlying bullion price is largely uniform nationwide, but small differences can appear between cities due to local making charges, dealer margins and how quickly each market updates its reference rate. See our city pages for local details.
