Data & Methodology

Exactly how the numbers on this site are sourced, converted and updated — and what they can and cannot tell you.

Where the rates come from

Gold is priced globally in US Dollars per troy ounce (XAU/USD). We convert that international spot benchmark into Pakistani Rupees using the prevailing open-market USD/PKR exchange rate, then express it in the units Pakistan actually uses: per tola (11.6638 g), per gram and per ounce, for 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K purities. Karat prices are proportional to fine-gold content (22K = 22/24 of the 24K price, and so on).

Silver rates follow the same method from the XAG/USD benchmark. Forex rates cover open-market buying/selling and indicative interbank rates for major currencies.

Update schedule

Rates refresh several times a day during market hours, with an automated daily sync as a backstop. Every rate page displays a last updated timestamp; our JSON API exposes the same timestamp programmatically.

What our rates are — and are not

Our figures are a converted international benchmark: the fairest single reference for what gold is worth in PKR at this moment. They are not a shop quote. Local Sarafa association rates include dealer spreads, and jewellers add making charges of roughly 8–15% on jewellery. Expect the price at a counter in Karachi or Lahore to differ from the headline benchmark by a few percent. For buying decisions, always confirm with the jeweller — our directory lists established shops by city.

Historical data

Yearly archives (2014 onwards) record average, highest and lowest 24K per-tola prices compiled from our daily series and public market reports. Long-form history articles cite State Bank of Pakistan context and international gold market records. Download the raw series as CSV (yearly) or CSV (daily).

Editorial standards

Content is researched and written for accuracy, reviewed before publishing, and revisited when market conditions or regulations change (customs allowances, duty rates, etc.). We separate factual reporting from opinion, cite drivers rather than making price predictions, and clearly mark indicative figures. Errors flagged by readers via our contact page are corrected promptly.

We do not accept payment for coverage in articles or the jeweller directory. Sponsored placements, if any, are labelled and carry rel="sponsored" links.

Known limitations

Open-market currency rates in Pakistan can diverge from interbank rates; during volatile periods this widens the gap between our benchmark and street prices. Weekend and holiday quotes carry the last market close. None of this content is financial advice — see the full disclaimer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do your gold rates come from?

Our PKR rates are derived from the international gold spot price (XAU/USD) converted to Pakistani Rupees using the prevailing open-market USD/PKR exchange rate, then expressed per tola (11.6638 g), per gram and per ounce for 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K purities.

How often are rates updated?

Rates refresh several times a day during market hours. Every rate page shows a "last updated" timestamp so you always know how fresh the number is.

Why does my local jeweller quote a different price?

Sarafa associations set local market rates that include dealer spreads, and jewellers add making charges (typically 8–15%). Our figures are the converted international benchmark — a reference point, not a shop quote.

Can I reuse your data?

Yes — our JSON API and CSV datasets are free for non-commercial use with attribution (a link back to goldrateinpakistan.org). See the API documentation page for details.

Disclaimer: The gold and silver rates provided on this website are aggregated from various local bullion markets and Sarafa Associations across Pakistan. While we strive to maintain accurate and up-to-date information, these prices are indicative and subject to continuous market fluctuations. They do not include making charges, local taxes, or dealer commissions. We recommend verifying the final price with your local jeweller before making any transaction.
